South Yorkshire Mayor Oliver Coppard visited Barnsley Civic and praised its regeneration, led by Dan Winder, the Civic’s CEO and artistic director. The expansion was partially funded by the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA), led by Coppard. The venue received £550,000 from SYMCA in 2022, which will be used to re-open the historic Eldon Street entrance. Coppard also toured the office that temporarily houses the Base71 Youth Zone. He discussed the importance of functional spaces for local artists to express their creativity.
