A Barnsley care home has been praised as “exemplary” after receiving an Outstanding rating from the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Deangate, in Mapplewell, was commended for its warm, family ethos and dedication to helping residents maintain independence, hobbies, and community links. Inspectors highlighted the home’s multi-generational activities, such as sessions with local toddler groups, and praised initiatives like its veterans’ breakfast club, which is open to the wider community.

Manager Rachel Dawson, who began at Deangate in 2004 as a part-time care assistant, said the result was “a dream come true,” crediting her “amazing staff team” for creating a welcoming atmosphere where “everyone feels like family.”

Deangate previously held a Good rating in 2021, but the CQC has now suggested other providers look to the home as a model of best practice.
