Traffic Restrictions – Active from Today (11 December 2025)

Drivers across Barnsley are being advised to plan ahead as a series of new road closures and speed restrictions come into force from today, Thursday 11 December 2025. Several routes will be affected by night-time works, temporary speed limits and a bridleway closure.

Below is a full breakdown of all works confirmed to be active from today.


Night-Time Closures & Speed Restrictions – Crane Moor / Thurgoland Area

A number of temporary measures begin tonight affecting several rural routes:

Hand Lane & Pinfold Lane – Night Closures

  • Closed from 8pm–6am starting 11 December
  • Expected to run for approximately two nights
  • Diversions will be signposted locally

Hollin Moor Lane & Thurgoland Hall Lane – Temporary 40mph Limits

  • Temporary 40mph speed limits in force from 11 December
  • These restrictions support the same telecoms upgrade programme
  • Reason for works: telecoms installation
  • Promoter: Rapid Response Telecoms Ltd

A628 Barnsley Road, Hoylandswaine – Temporary 40mph Limit (11 December Only)

  • Temporary 40mph speed restriction in place on a section of the A628 Barnsley Road
  • Applies on 11 December only
  • Reason: telecoms activity
  • Drivers may experience brief delays during the works period

Dodworth Bridleway 31 – Closure Begins Today

  • Section of Dodworth Bridleway 31 closed from 11 December
  • Closure applies on weekdays only
  • Expected to last for up to nine weekdays
  • Open as normal at weekends
  • Reason: underground high-voltage cable installation
  • Promoter: Power On Connection Ltd

  • Closed 10–12 December for telecoms pole replacement

Perseverance Street, Barnsley

  • Daytime closures from 8–13 December for a new care home connection
