A special service will be held in Barnsley to mark the 80th anniversary of Victory over Japan (VJ) Day, paying tribute to those who served and sacrificed during the Second World War.
The commemorative event will take place at 11am on Friday 15 August at the war memorial outside Barnsley Town Hall. Members of the public are invited to attend the service, which will offer a moment of reflection and remembrance for all those who gave their lives for their country in the Far East campaign.
VJ Day, which stands for Victory over Japan Day, marks the end of the Second World War and is recognised as a significant moment in British and global history. The service in Barnsley is part of a broader commitment to honour the Armed Forces community, both past and present.
