The community of Darfield will come together tomorrow (Friday 29th August) for the unveiling of a new blue plaque recognising the village’s heritage and enduring contributions to Barnsley’s history.
The ceremony, organised by the Darfield Area Amenity Society in partnership with Darfield Museum, will begin at 4pm and is open to all residents and visitors. The plaque marks an important piece of local history and will serve as a permanent reminder of Darfield’s place in Barnsley’s story.
As part of the event, poet Ian McMillan and musician Luke Carver Goss will premiere their new Pride of Place Song Cycle, a specially written piece inspired by the community and its sense of identity.
The ceremony will take place outside Darfield Museum on Vicar Road, where attendees will also be able to learn more about the village’s history. The museum itself is open to visitors on Saturdays from 10am to 2pm and Wednesdays from 1pm to 4pm.
Organisers say they are looking forward to welcoming as many people as possible to share in the moment, celebrate the plaque, and reflect on the lasting importance of Darfield’s heritage.
