Families across Barnsley can look forward to a summer of fun and active travel opportunities, as the popular RampUp sessions return this school holiday. Delivered by the RampUp team, these free cycling and scooting events are set to take place throughout the summer break at parks and open spaces right across the borough.

Aimed at children and young people, the sessions are designed to help participants build confidence on bikes and scooters, learn new skills, and have fun while staying active. The initiative also encourages families to consider cycling and scooting as regular ways to get around safely and sustainably.

Bikes, scooters and helmets are available to borrow at each session, making it easy for children to join in even if they don’t have their own equipment. Each event is open to all abilities, and places are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

To attend, parents and carers must register their children in advance of the programme starting. However, those who have previously registered for RampUp don’t need to sign up again—just confirm their child’s name at the sign-in desk on the day.

RampUp sessions are scheduled across July and August, with locations ranging from Wombwell Park and Locke Park to Thurnscoe, Penistone, Cudworth and more. A full list of dates, times, and venues is available below.

These events are part of Barnsley’s ongoing efforts to encourage outdoor play, healthy lifestyles, and active travel for young people across the borough.
