Barnsley Council is preparing to begin work on a new Local Plan which will help decide where homes, jobs, roads, schools and other infrastructure are developed across the borough in the years ahead.
Cabinet members are being asked to approve the start of the process, with an initial public consultation proposed for January 2027.
The council says the new plan will have to respond to increased national housing requirements. That means potential development on parts of the Green Belt is expected to form part of the discussion, alongside the use of brownfield land and decisions about how different parts of Barnsley should grow.
