What's on in Barnsley: Friday 2 to Sunday 4 October
A round-up of music, poetry, football and family events taking place across Barnsley this weekend.
There is plenty happening across Barnsley from Friday 2 to Sunday 4 October, with live music, author talks, poetry, grassroots football and a murder mystery all on the bill.
On Friday 2 October, China Crisis play Birdwell Venue in Birdwell. Doors open at 7pm for a standing show. Also that evening, Legends of the 60s comes to Barnsley Civic at 7.30pm, with tickets priced at £28.
Saturday 3 October begins at Hoyland Library with a free author event featuring Lucy Brighton at 11.15am, suitable for ages 14 and over. Later, at 1.30pm, Library @ the Lightbox hosts a free Black History Month poetry event with Desiree Reynolds and Seni Seneviratne.
Local football kicks off at 3pm on Saturday 3 October, with Wombwell Town hosting Club Thorne Colliery, Worsbrough Bridge Athletic welcoming Parkgate, Horbury Town taking on Penistone Church, and Rossington Main facing Dearne & District. In the evening, Mapplewell & Staincross Village Hall presents A Murder Happens?, an interactive comedy murder mystery starting at 7.15pm.
On Sunday 4 October, a photowalk and writing session runs from 12pm to 6pm at Borough Studios and Skate & Bake. Barnsley Women also face Mancunian Unity Women in the Women's FA Cup third qualifying round at Steel City Stadium, with a 2pm kick-off.
