Barnsley Council Cabinet to weigh up new AI and innovation plan
Cabinet is being asked to consider a plan that would see greater use of artificial intelligence, digital services and automation across council services.
Artificial intelligence could play a bigger role in how some Barnsley Council services operate in future, with Cabinet being asked to consider a new Innovation and AI plan next Wednesday.
The proposals include greater use of artificial intelligence, digital services, automation, data and redesigned processes.
The plan is intended to support £1.865 million of efficiencies between 2026 and 2029. It also proposes a one-off £445,500 investment to replace the council's existing contact-centre system.
The council says the aim is to make services easier to access and improve how enquiries are handled.
This is a proposal going to Cabinet on Wednesday 7 October and it has not yet been approved.
