South Yorkshire Mayor Oliver Coppard says he will not agree a poor deal as negotiations continue over changes to the lease for Doncaster Sheffield Airport. Around £160 million of devolution funding has been earmarked for the reopening project, but its release is dependent on changes being agreed to the current lease between City of Doncaster Council and landowner Peel.
Negotiations have now been continuing for more than a year. Work on plans to reopen the airport has continued alongside the lease discussions, with the proposed return of passenger flights remaining one of South Yorkshire's biggest infrastructure projects.
