Planners back Broom Lane mosque rebuild in Rotherham
Rotherham councillors are set to approve a rebuilt Broom Lane mosque with classrooms, despite residents' worries about parking and congestion.
Plans to rebuild a long-standing mosque on Broom Lane in Rotherham have been recommended for approval by council planners.
The scheme would replace the existing building with a larger one, including first-floor classrooms, better washing and toilet facilities, and kitchen and dining space.
Residents have raised concerns about parking, congestion and the size of the proposed building, and planners had been urged to turn the scheme down over the lack of worshipper parking.
Despite those objections, planning officers have recommended the plans for approval, and the decision now rests with Rotherham councillors.
We'll bring you more once the committee has met.
