Rotherham street traders move back to market hall site
Outdoor market traders are returning to the market hall site as indoor traders report a drop in footfall.
Rotherham outdoor market relocated from the outdoor covered market to Effingham Street in 2023 as part of the £46.844m regeneration of Rotherham Markets.
Traders from the old indoor market have temporarily moved into the New Market Hall until the indoor market is completed. When these traders return, they will use the new Market Hall.
Rotherham Council has decided to move the Monday and Friday general market from the street onto the public space around the Rotherham Market Hall, creating a new public realm area between the market and Eastwood Lane and the college campus.
However, accessibility issues and ongoing construction activity may also have contributed to a decrease in footfall. The council is also considering extending its rent free period for traders due to these temporary challenges.
