Data from the 2021 Census puts the proportion of 16 to 24-year-olds in Barnsley who were not in education, employment or training at 17%.
Barnsley shares that figure with Doncaster, Bradford and Middlesbrough. Only Blackpool recorded a higher proportion in the study, at 21%.
The figures are based on the 2021 Census and are not a measurement of Barnsley's situation today. They do, however, highlight the long-term importance of entry-level jobs, apprenticeships, training and careers advice for young people in the borough.
