A major education proposal goes before Barnsley Council's Cabinet on Wednesday 7 October.
The council is considering spending £7.37 million to create 40 specialist primary-school places for children with complex special educational needs and disabilities.
The proposal would see The Mill, Worsbrough Bridge, refurbished and adapted to provide specialist education closer to home for Barnsley children.
The aim is to reduce the need for some families to travel outside their local area for suitable provision.
If approved, the new school provision is expected to open in September 2028. For many families, a shorter and more manageable school journey could make a significant difference to everyday life.
