A Barnsley man previously accused of causing grievous bodily harm has now been charged with murder following the death of Russell Baxter.
Russell, 41, was found with multiple injuries at a property on Wingfield Road, Athersley, on 3 September. He was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
South Yorkshire Police says Phillip Benson, 57, has now been charged with murder. The new charge replaces an earlier charge of grievous bodily harm with intent.
Benson remains on remand and is due to appear at Sheffield Crown Court on Friday 9 October. Russell's family continue to be supported by specialist officers.
