New analysis has highlighted the scale of the challenge facing some young people in Barnsley.
Centre for Cities analysis of 2021 Census data says 17% of Barnsley's 16 to 24-year-olds were recorded as not in education, employment or training at the time of the Census.
That puts Barnsley among the five highest rates in urban England in the analysis, alongside Blackpool, Doncaster, Bradford and Middlesbrough.
The figures are based on 2021 Census data rather than a measurement of the situation today, but they highlight the longer-term challenge around opportunities for young people.
The analysis was carried out by Centre for Cities.
