Barnsley Council has set out how responsibility for water leaks and flooding is divided between the authority, Yorkshire Water and other organisations. Yorkshire Water is responsible for public foul and surface-water sewers, while the council deals with issues including blocked street drains and gullies on council-maintained roads.
The two organisations are also working together to identify households which could receive help with their bills. A data-sharing initiative has resulted in 6,537 households being added to a water bill reduction scheme, with estimated combined savings of more than £1.4 million over a year.
