Barnsley Council's gritting team is now on standby to keep the borough's 321 miles of primary gritting routes moving over the winter months.
The crews will be working around the clock when conditions call for it, according to the council, which says its teams are ready to head out on the roads as temperatures drop.
The primary gritting routes are the main roads the council treats first when ice or snow is forecast, helping to keep key routes across Barnsley open through the colder weather.
