A dance and music production inspired by Barnsley’s mining heritage is being staged at the Barbican in London.
PIA follows a Barnsley woman across three generations of her life as her imagination moves between the town’s closed collieries and dreams of travelling through space.
The production is created by choreographer Katya Bourvis with creative producer Tala Lee-Turton and composer Hannah Peel. A 17-piece brass band performs Peel’s Mary Casio: Journey to Cassiopeia.
PIA has been commissioned by the Barbican and Barnsley Civic and is due to be performed at Milton Court Concert Hall on Friday 23 October.
