Barnsley Council says its Disabled Children’s Service has hosted the borough’s first Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Awards Ceremony, celebrating children and young people with SEND and those who support them.
More than 100 children and young people, family members and professionals attended. Nominees were recognised across 10 categories, with a winner and runner-up selected in each.
Awards were also presented to adults recognised for supporting and championing children and families. Guests were welcomed with a red carpet and activities including face painting, a photo booth and a disco.
Councillor Gary Hall, Cabinet Spokesperson for Children’s Services, said the council wants people with SEND and their supporters to feel heard, valued and included, and congratulated everyone nominated or recognised at the awards.
