Plans to create 40 specialist primary school places in Barnsley are set to go before cabinet.
The proposal would see the existing council-owned building at The Mill in Worsbrough Bridge refurbished and adapted as part of a wider push to provide more specialist education locally.
The £7.37m scheme would be funded through the government's High Needs Provision Capital Allocation Grant. Waterton Academy Trust has been named as the preferred partner to run the provision if the plans are approved.
The council says the proposal would help more children with complex SEND needs get support closer to home, reducing the need for pupils to travel outside the borough. Children could start learning there from September 2028.
