Barnsley's planning board has backed outline plans for up to 126 homes on land north of Keresforth Road in Dodworth.
The application was approved following a divided vote and is subject to a legal agreement worth around £900,000. Contributions would cover areas including school places, biodiversity and public transport.
No on-site affordable housing is currently proposed. There are still planning formalities to complete before anybody starts building.
