Prison officer denies faking bomb threat at HMP Moorland

A prison officer has pleaded not guilty to allegations that she faked a bomb threat at HMP Moorland in Doncaster.

Chelsea Welch, 35, from Scunthorpe, is charged with making a bomb hoax by communicating false information on 28 July 2025 and with misconduct in public office.

She denied both charges at Sheffield Crown Court and has been granted bail.

Her trial is currently scheduled to begin on 8 November 2027.

HMP Moorland is a Category C prison near Doncaster housing around 1,000 prisoners.
