After seeing a social media user hugely succeed in a 'litter picking challenge', we came up with the initiative to do similar, but within our local area. We are starting off by using social media to promote our voluntary work, showcasing each day when we litter pick. Each week, we will head to a different area of Barnsley litter picking paths, parks, streets, car parks and more!
We plan to expand and grow this initiative and enrol other volunteers who wish to help. As an incentive, we will be providing a free hot or cold drink to each volunteer, for each day they help us!
As this is a completely voluntary based hobby, we will also be using the power of social media to gain small funds via GoFundMe, which will be used equipment, PPE, marketing and, eventually, to fund other volunteers' equipment and their free drinks! At the end of each month we will also donate a portion of the funds to a charity of our choice, showcasing this via GoFundMe and social media channels.
Although litter picking volunteers are already out in the community, we believe more needs to be done and on a regular basis too, all while reaching out to a wide audience across Barnsley and further!
