Four training projects in Barnsley will share more than £800,000 to give people practical artificial intelligence skills in their everyday jobs, the council says.
The money comes from the government's AI Upskilling Challenge Fund and forms part of Barnsley's Tech Town initiative. The council says the projects are aimed at frontline care staff, builders and mothers returning to work, with training taken directly into hospital wards, construction sites and small businesses rather than kept to general awareness sessions.
Barnsley College is taking mobile AI training units directly to hospital and social care settings, according to the council's announcement. The funding was confirmed on Tuesday 3 November.
The aim is to help local workers and businesses adapt as artificial intelligence becomes more common in the workplace, with training focused on practical, problem-solving tools people can use in their own jobs.
